We’d like to make you aware of an upcoming webinar on February 10th from 1:00-2:30 p.m. PST/4:00-5:30 p.m. EST focused on the NTG-Early Detection Screen for Dementia (NTG-EDSD), in adults with an intellectual and developmental disability (IDD). ONEgeneration and the National Task Group on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practices will present this webinar, which is sponsored and funded by the Archstone Foundation.

The NTG-EDSD was developed in response to requests by family caregivers and agencies for a useful tool to record observations of changes in function. This tool is used in starting that critical conversation with (and among) clinical personnel as to whether their observations merit more explicit assessment for mild cognitive impairment, dementia or — alternatively – signal behaviors that may require intervention and remediation.

The specialized information provided by the NTG-EDSD can aid community practitioners when examining and assessing adults with intellectual disability. The NTG-EDSD is designed to be completed by family caregivers and/or staff at local agencies and organizations. The NTG-EDSD is also useful for collective discussions and dementia care planning involving families and care providers.

Attendees will:

  1. Understand the value of identifying cognitive, behavioral and functional baseline
  2. Receive pointers on how to complete the screening tool to capture observations about change
  3. Recognize when a client needs to be referred for further assessment
  4. Practice in rating sample client cases
  5. Explore how to use the findings from the EDSD to plan services and supports
